I usually do not edit much. If I think I can get an "artsy" look to a shot I might try something. I was bored out of my mind and messing around with some shots I took at a local bluegrass festival yesterday and did something to one and thought it looked pretty cool. Maybe, maybe not, depends on what each eye likes.

I like how you got the main lighting on the instrament and hand and left the musician in the heavy shadow... would make a great advertizement poster for his band...

like number 2. maybe its my old eyes but can't tell the difference between 2 and 3. I know you said its at a bluegrass festival but the shot has a beatnik jazz feel. would make a great album cover. enjoyed your creativity daddy-o. 8-)

Yeah, I know I thought that to. It looked more jazzy than bluegrassy!!! I guess all my years in New Orleans crept out!!! I think the only difference in 2and 3 is the face of the guy, it is a little darker in one.

I got lucky as the sun was shining on the bass fiddle. I had no idea it would turn out to be this kind of photo. Just one of those things you do accidentally and then go "Hey, I kinda like that!"

sometimes you get a great shot by preplanning, other times a great shot sneaks up and bites you on the but. :D this is one of those photos the more i look at it the more i love it.

Like the pic a lot!
Would have liked to have seen an off camera flash from the left on the guys face. Low power light. You could probably do this in Light room.

Thanks for the post.

The original is all color and you can see his face, the edit I did changed it all. I kind of liked his face being "hidden" with the emphasis being on the bass fiddle.
