I watched an interesting show last night about the English nuclear reactor at Windscale. It's sole purpose was to produce plutonium for an atom bomb. Then they wanted a hydrogen bomb. Not surprisingly, political pressure screwed the whole thing up, the core caught fire, and it came close to becoming a huge disaster. Typically, the heroes who saved the plant were blamed for its problems, "Errors in judgment."
