Does the price include the vehicle needed to transport it, the tripods needed to support it and the team of sherpas required to help you get it into the exact location you will be using it? If not, I'll pass.
Probably not. But a gun carriage from a civil war reenactor supply should only be a hundred or so.
Well, you could never use it handheld, so you don't need IS...go for it...lol...

I would go for it if that is your only reason. If you can afford it, likely no one in your family or circle of friends that would dare point out that you may have taken a blurry shot.
I remember when this one came out. For rent only. Shortly after the EOS system came out.
I understand they sold two a year for about 12 years. There are a few more out there.
Thankful I shoot Nikon so this is not a problem for me.

Don, unfortunately for you, that's a good problem not to have!
All photographers should have the chance to be able to stress over and have to make that tough decision.
To buy or not buy a 1200mm lens, that is the question, and is one of those rights that is granted to us in our constitution!!!
That's why I always feel so bad for non-Canon shooters!!
How in the heck do they even know they are still ALIVE?!?!

I think you're all missing the most important question here, and that's...
Does it come with its own Beer holder?
That tripod looks a lot like the one I often use. Mine is a converted surveyor's tripod, that was originally used for a Transit or a Telescopic Level...VERY sturdy and nary a micron of movement that I can detect...
If you have a surplus HUMVEE the gun mount might work.

Hey ! If you can drop 180 K for the lens you can afford a personal beer sommelier to hand you your favorite brew.

Joking aside, is it not possible for such a lens to be jointly owned and shared like a condo by this group or just professional photographers of this group?

A large collective such as Magnum might--no forget those tightwads--a large collective might have a possible use for something. But there may be less expensive options in the 1000 mm range.
even though i'm a linn person, i would go with the walker. you will derive way more enjoyment out of that baby than any lens out there! and don't forget to contact Vladimir Lamm for your electronics. good luck!
