Wow, Bret, the colors on that first one really pop, and who knew those bloodsuckers had feathered antennas?! Maybe it drinks water and nectar too? Will have to research that further.....anyway, enjoyed these.

Good ole Google. It says both males and females drink nectar, but the females need the blood, and will choose blood over nectar. But the males drink only nectar and so yours is most likely a male. Learn something new everyday. They do occasionally drink water also.

This is a male mosquito. Male mosquitoes survive by feeding on flower nectar and sweet juices. Female mosquitoes not only feed on various sugars for energy, but also require the nutrition of blood for the development of their eggs.
