A great set, David. The first two really demonstrate extremes in dof. The miniscule dof in #1 is well shown, as is the abundance of dof in #2.

Great shots as usual David. Who do you suppose made the ground nest in #2? And of course the last one is a stunner. I love waterfalls.

Thank you so much Linda. I really appreciate the compliment. I couldn't resist the deer. I had been looking over the grassland for about 15 minutes waiting for the sun to offer me something. Then, all of a sudden, this deer pops its head up, looked around, then went back down. It took another twenty minutes of head risings to capture this shot before it went back down. I would say it was about 150 to 200 yards out.

Earl.
Well observed, Earl. I opened the aperture wide open for this first one, and the other shot was a seven-stack blend. The textures and colors from the wood bark and woodrat nest in the background were too much to pass up with the deer moss in the foreground. I hadn't seen a woodrat nest that large in years.

Dusky-footed woodrat, Neotoma fuscipes.

The are way cool animals. The are also a native woodrat and don't carry the diseases that the European varieties that were introduced here do.

I had one as a pet when I was a kid. They are very calm and have a slightly furry tail. You can usually only find them in the woods as they don't like to hang around humans.
