Wow, David! Are those beetles black and show up metallic blue in the light? These are all interesting and beautiful shots as yours always are.

They were actually brighter in the sunlight, Donna. I noticed them right away. I used my flash and home-made diffuser so soften the heavy shadows from the available light. I was after a swallowtail butterfly working the milkweed plants. When I came up to one of the plants, I saw these exquisite examples of beetles. they were having fun in the sun doing what beetles do best, devouring plant leaves and making more beetles.

It was slightly windy, so most of them didn't turn out so well. Just a flash and diffuser on the camera chasing the inverts. :thumbup:

Terrific shots, Boz. I did enjoy - but maybe not as much as the pretty blue beetles!
