I also live in Lee County and this whole thing is ridiculous. Lee freed his slaves before many northerners released theirs. He treated POWs humanly. He chose to fight for the South not because of slaverly but to protect the states rights of his beloved Virginia. The NAACP is helping to lead the charge to remove the portrait.

and have no vested interest, I'm saying leave General Lees image
up.

....seems the biggest "shouters" have been the 100 or so Republican contenders for president.... They seem to believe that taking down the flag of the Army of Northern Virginia (which racists appropriated back in the 60s) will eliminate racism and discrimination from this country. Once that flag is taken down, they will walk away, dusting off their hands and say, "now that was easy."
