That one's really beautiful, Bob. Great artistry in its culture, and a darned nice shot.

You are going to make me put out effort to find a bonsai collection and go look at them.

I used to live near a garden supply/nusery/fish store run by a Japanese family, 3rd or 4th generation owners/operators. They had a fairly large collection of bonsai, taught classes etc.

When ever I went there I would spend most of my time just looking. Then buy my fish supplies or what ever and leave with my head full of "If". If only I didn't already have so many other hobbies, etc etc.

They had one over 5' tall, a little redwood trained to look like one of the "giants" in the national park.

Darn Jerry! Now you've got me wanting to know what the miniature redwood tree looked like. I've seen the originals at Sequoia National Park, and I'm quite impressed with them.

Thanks John. This one of my favorite art forms of all time when it comes to plant life.

They didn't know if it would work long term, it was an experiment to see how old it would get before it insisted on growing into a tree. Since redwoods grow fairly slow they were hoping for a couple of decades at least.
I googled "bonsai redwood" and got hits big time, "images" came up with a lot, but not one of them as big as that one I saw years ago. And towards the bottom of the pages the "Bagend Bonsai" popped up, take a look:

Thanks Don. I've always said, if you have a beautiful subject it goes a long way to creating a remarkable illustration.

Thanks Jeff. The tricky part of these trees is to mask them from their background and give them a suitable backdrop against which to display their beauty.
