SE Alaska is known for rainy weather and it is normal for eagles to get wet.I have seen thousands of Bald eagles (including one swimming in the ocean) but none of them came even remotely close to the looks of this immature Baldie. He looked like he went thru several washing cycles inside a washer and I have no idea how he got that way.He could not fly in this condition so he was "a sitting duck".
That young'n hasn't learned to get in out of the rain yet! I bet that experience learns him real good though. LOL Nice pics.

They can sit in the rain for hours, the water just runs off withour soaking them. The story with this one must be much weirder. Thanks,Ivan.
Never saw a soggy eagle before, nice clarity.

I wonder if he got into some oil or other contaminant?

I do not think so. I got within two feet of him and I could not smell anything, it looked like water soak only. Ivan.
Looks like a bad feathrt day
Unlike anything I've seen before! These are amazing! Love the third one, he has that "Go ahead...make my day" look to him!
Nice, Ivan! Like all but #3 & #4 are my favorites.

Great photos! That does not surprise me. He looks like one of those "just washed my hair and can't do a thing with it" moments.

You can say that again.Thanks,Ivan.
Ivan,
My buddy saw two eagles chasing....one had food the other wanted it. Finally the one dropped the food, the other one chased it to the water. He actually hit the water and went under, coming up with the food. I've never seen one go under like he described but maybe this is what happened to this youngster.
Wonderful shots, Ivan. Really enjoy your photography.
Thanks for posting,
Lee
He almost looks like he got into some kind of wetting agent (soap). When we would wash chickens you could hardly get them wet clear through without some kind of soap. The water just wouldn't penetrate. Doesn't seem like that is a viable explanation in this case though .
How ever he got that way these are fantastic pictures.
