The butterflies are beginning to find the bait. I hope to have many more visit and give me lots of photo ops. This poor fellow looks like he has already been through some rough times this year.

Nice shots Sherry, did you know butterflies like rotten fruit, like bananas, grapes, oranges, apples, instead of throwing it in the trash, I put it in a saucer and set it outside away from the house a bit.

Yes, they will, and then maybe you can get some gorgeous shots like these! They're just beautiful, Sherry. Be sure to keep your lantana deadheaded so it will keep producing flowers for the butterflies and bees.

Thanks, Earl. I had to chase this one (or his kin) for a couple of days before he slowed down enough for me to keep him in the frame!

Thanks for your kind comment, Angela. I just try to keep nature's bounty available for the creatures.

Thanks for your kind comment, HOT, and for the info. I have never set out fruit with the butterflies in mind. I currently am putting out woodpecker feed which contains fruit; it is attracting an enormous number of flies!! If I can decimate the fly population, maybe the butterflies will have a chance. But I don't know what decimation tool to use that won't also hurt my wanted visitors. :-(

Thanks, Donna. Pretty much all of the plants I have set out were selected with butterflies and hummers in mind. I am trying to deadhead properly. On the verbena plants, I have a hard time telling whether the head is coming or going! Sometimes I can see the little blooms beginning to ease out and sometimes there are a few dead blooms stubbornly hanging on - then I know. Otherwise, I'm confused. Old as I am, I am new to all this gardening stuff, and apparently stupid, too!

All my hummers have flown the coop.

I know! One of the reasons I wanted lantana (well, beside liking it) was that I thought it was low care to no care. Huge beautiful lantana bushes grow down at the beach; they are covered with blooms and I can't imagine that anyone is tending to them! So, I was surprised when the blooms died away so quickly and the plant started looking leggy.
