Not only am I a newbie on this site (just discovered it) but I'm a fairly new photographer, too. I also just recently moved back to Alaska after about a 20 year absence. I'm excited about all the photography possibilities here in Alaska but not good at capturing them, YET!! I'm joining (hopefully) some photography groups up here and hoping to learn a bunch. I welcome your constructive comments/suggestions but be gentle...I'm a sensitive sort...sort of!! LOL...anyway, excited to be here and look forward to getting to know you.
a bear that came up next to my camper on the road and sat for a photo
a scrapbook page created about my trip to Alaska
a birdy who hitched a rid on my trailer
I love the photo of the bear! He did a great job of posing!
I know wasn't that sweet of him (or her for all I know).
Welcome. How close were you to that bear?
It felt like a foot but it was really about 3 feet. He/she was right outside the driver's side door of my camper/motor home (pictured in the scrapbook layout). Close, huh!! I got about a dozen photos. Unfortunately not a single one that would be considered sellable because it was so close I couldn't even get the whole shadow. Bummer!!

I bought a 60D the day before I went to Alaska this past summer. I wish I had been able to come that close to a bear. The only ones I get are at the Zoo. Safely enclosed.
