We had occasion to go to Annapolis, MD last Tuesday for some medical appoints when the L' Hermoine was making a port call so we went to the harbor to see her; it was a zoo! This is an exact but newly built replica of the original ship. The original was the ship that carried Marquis Lafayette to "the colonies" to assist General Washington. She also had a part in the Blockade of the Chesapeake Bay that forced General Cornwallis to surrender at Yorktown.
She is now headed for NY and Boston and then further "down east".
I apologize for the over exposures, but it was a hot sunny & very bright day and the sun was on other side of the ship about in line with the foremast--exactly where I didn't want it!

Vive la France! So given the essential role the French played in achieving independence from British rule, what's up with that "Freedom Fries" thing? So much for "Entente Cordiale" between the US and France!
Thanks for the pictures, always good to see a tall ship! And timely given the anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo.
Anyone want to go on a cruise to Saint Helena?
It appears you had two things going against you, the sun and the number of people. Thanks for posting, always enjoy a tall ship.

Peterff,
Thank you for your comments. We are fortunate to see several tall ships here on the bay. There are a few home ported in Baltimore, and the _?___ Nikel, the tall ship of NJ, comes for some special occasions.

Bill, I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures. Crowds are almost always a problem for photographers--there is some law that says they have to step into your shot just as you are preparing to trip the shutter. That's why I enjoy doing air shows too; unless they can fly, they are out of the line of sight :D
Smithsonian had a wonderful article about the ship earlier in 2015. I wish I could have gotten East this summer to see for myself. Thanks for the images.

Glad you enjoyed the pictures, blown out as they were. That white tent was a real glare maker!
Thanks for the info on the Smithsonian article, I'll make it a point to look for it.
Great shots even in the bad light
