A blue dasher - right?
I hope he hangs around; there is certainly much for him to hunt.

Beautiful!!! I love dragonflies. :)
Looks like a beautiful Blue Dasher to me, Sherry, and some super shots from you! It's waaaay to hot to be sprawling in the grass. :-D

Thanks so much for dropping in and commenting, Pam. I love dragons, too, and was beginning to think they weren't going to come see me this year.

Thanks for your kind comment, Donna. I was so happy to finally get an opportunity to shoot one this year - and I hope many more.
Are you suggesting that
I was sprawling in the grass?????       That is too funny!! Aside from the fact that I would never be able to get back up, the fire ants would eat me alive! The dasher was perched on my Sago Palm about 7' up; trying to get in close, I received multiple stab wounds from the pointy leaves and got a neck crick (but no ant bites). Photography can be so dangerous.

Thanks, Earl. Do you have dragons? In the bush?

We sure do, but don't forget it is mid winter over here, so they are having a wee rest just now.
Sherry these shots of the male Blue Dasher (Pachydiplax longipennis) are just fantastic. You captured all the angles for identifying field marks. Wonderful color, detail and background. Nice work.

Thanks so much for looking and for your very kind comments, Doc. I hope to have many more to shoot and know I can depend on you to keep me straight on the ID! How do you know its a male? Because of the longipennis?
