I'm reading that the Mac Keychain app has been hacked and passwords are flowing out of it.

I don't use a Mac, so I don't know what the KeyChain app is all about, but I know several folks here on the Hog use Macs.

Heads up!!

Where did you read this?

I don't use the keychain app for passwords, instead I use 1Password.

I did a quick search and find nothing regarding an issue yet where there is a major vulnerability.

Edit:

This is what I did find - a team of RESEARCHERS discovered a hole that can be exploited they claim.

Don, that isn't the same article (forget where I saw it yesterday), but content is the same. Interestingly, I was reading about it on CNN just this morning. I just went back there to get you guys a link, and could not find it. Maybe there isn't much to it. Hope not.

From what I read, it could be a "possible" threat, not one that is happening yet.

I stopped using the built in keychain for passwords a long time ago myself and make use of 1Password, a Mac App that encrypts (of course) all the passwords used and actually allows you to make use long very difficult passwords for each site you need, but you only need remember the single password to get into the 1Password app & database.

I would expect Apple to react with updates pretty quickly should the keychain app be "hacked" on both IOS & OS X.

I have Macs, and PC's. And - my philosophy is to use a highly technical approach to password up-keep and safety.

1. Write them on a pad that goes in my safe.

2. Change them on a regular basis between 3-4 months.

Nothing in the Internet Universe is perfect or impervious to persons of ill-intent, permanently. I am not a fan-boy, and I try to be a pragmatist.

I'm hopeful there's nothing to it. The characterization I used came from the original article I read.
