So I was watching Orange is the New Black the other day...
True story.
I was catching an episode of Orange is the New Black the other day and in it one of the characters brings up a book called "Freakonomics".
Any of you ever hear of it? It was news to me.
Anyway, the character goes on to say that there has been a sudden and continuing drop in crime since the early 90's. One of the factors the book points to as a reason for this is not the economy, not gun laws, no sir. It's due in part to Roe v Wade. That's right! The poor, neglected, uneducated had free access and stopped producing the next generation of criminals.
http://freakonomics.com/2011/06/08/freakonomics-quorum-why-during-a-bad-economy-does-crime-continue-to-fall/Any thoughts on this?
I think I could buy into this but if this is true, why does it seem like our entire nation got....stupid?

Freakonomics is a fascinating read. Catch the whole book.
I assume the free access you refer to is to contraceptives?? IIRC evidence is also cited to suggest that the drop in crime may be associated with the removal of tetraethyl lead from gasoline and white lead from paints, since lead is a cumulative poison causing brain damage kids living in old buildings weren't getting as much exposure, assuming that paint removal was done properly before repainting. A big assumption that! Certainly lead-free gasoline had to have reduced lead exposure.
A question. If the correlation you mention in Freakonomics is true, why oh why would our various Dolts Under the Dome try to restrict contraceptive access??????

Free a******ns not free contraceptives
That was a very controversial idea. Fewer unwanted children growing up to be criminals because of a******n? Maybe, but more likely it's easier access to birth control as a major factor in the drop of unwanted pregnancies/children. It's probably the real reason.
I read the book & it's has a lot of interesting stories.

None of it is true.
If any of this stuff was responsible for reducing the crime rate then why, oh why, did it produce more and more liberals at the same time.

Yes things that pigs won't do like:
Treat women, minorities & the poor as second class citizens.
Or give tax cuts to the rich who don't need them.
Or cut funding for schools to pay for tax cuts to the rich.
Or deny a woman's right to choose.
Or weaken environmental laws for big corporate polluters.
Or start wars in the middle east based on lies.
Yes even pigs have their standards.

Interesting. Can you prove that it did? Are there in fact more liberals today than in previous decades? Do conservatives die in larger numbers in say...wars, line of duty, etc. thereby resulting in fewer conservatives?

Over a period of about 200 years, this Nation went from nothing to the GREATEST country in the history of the world.
Over the last 40 years, liberalism has grown every year and this country has slipped to 27th in the world.
I believe one has something to do with the other.

There is a correlation between the two, just as there is a correlation between dollars spent on the space program and the suicide rate in America.
Ascribing a causal relationship between the two is a bit more difficult. Correlation doesn't prove causation.
