clarence when I shot those civil war renactors I was more of a snapshooter. I was young teenage rebellion and did not take advantage of my fathers talenta and skills. He graduated from Brooks institute of photography and was greatt im many areas but especialy portraits. I had scanned these photos into my computer and forgot about them. I only remebered them with usmc1063's great shots of pre revolutionary war photos. I love the musket fire one. I am going to open my photos up in photoshop 7 and play with them. I will post the results. 8-)
Yes, Ugly Jake, I did some photoshop on them. I wanted to try to duplicate a hand color process from 100 years ago. This one is a bit more descriptive of the process.
I'd like to add a few headstones to the mix, if I may. Some of you may find them interesting. They were taken locally, here in Cleveland, OH, at Lake View Historical Cemetary.
President Garfield's Tomb
John D Rockefeller
Eliot Ness

This last photo with the soldiers charging forward is my absolute favorite now. I love to see expressions on the face, makes you try to read thier minds. Great job!

:) :) :) Thank you very much. I really apreciate that you took the time to look and comment. I need all the positive vibes I can get. Where is your hometown in Texas. I spent a few years in houston but never heard of it.

You're welcome. I live in the big (really tiny) city of Kountze. Very rural area, where we sit on our porches to drink coffee and listen to the roosters crow and enjoy the smell of cow poo from all the surrounding properties. Barb wire fencing and big red barns. I couldn't ask for better, just an old homestead with peace and quite except for a few tenagers with their banging vibrating trucks, including my own son. Kountze is about 20 minutes north of beaumont, which is about 45-to an hour southeast of houston.I think.
Ugly Jake: I love that pic of the angel. It's fantastic.
Sinatra: I can't believe you got me to look. You have overtaken Buddha. And for someone without much useful information, I sure have posted a lot. :)

actually randy you have posted a lot of usefull information and so far on any critiques I dont disagree with you. If touch buddahs belly gives you 7 years good luck does out posting buddah give me 7 years bad luck?
Sinatraman, I will be looking for them. Thanks
In fact you already worked on them and reposted. I love them. Cropping them in tighter did wonders also. Good work.
If I may...That musket shot photo is an excellent capture; it has action, it involves the viewer and needs no explanation. For me, the other shots don't do that, I feel left out. For example, I think that the first picture of the man with the beard would have been awesome if you were closer to him or if you'd shown more of his costume. He even has a great pose.
Looking forward to posting my own photos and getting some feedback!

don't want this thread to get buried so I am posting something to get it back up to the front. so in the imortal words of ol blue eyes "what is a man what has he got if not himself that he has not to say the words of how he feels instead of those of one who kneels, the record shows I took the blows and did it MY WAY
For those that appreciate war history I would like to add a picture that for most would not mean a thing without a little text. This was taken at Omaha Beach, Normandy at the actual invasion site of WWII - D-Day. I found this area of particular interest when one remembers that the invasion took place at low tide to avoid obstacles that were buried during a higher tide; which would give you well over three hundred yards of open sandy beaches, plus 3 to 6 feet of water where the landing craft go you to - against German guns and bunkers. The time of day of this picture was about 6 hours from low tide. Without going into number of wounded or dead, Omaha Beach became known as "Bloody Beach". For any that have a interest and has the means - I would highly recommend a trip to this region.
