Anyone have experience with the new Leica Q camera?

I've tried to send this a couple of times...no success. Does this site not allow URLs? Trying again.

Steve Huff has a history if being a Leica fan, but his reviews are typically well balanced.

Love Steve's review!
The hands-on view shows its real size.
Can't justify the cost, but... it makes my pants feel funny.

In the opening of this article, reviewer Huff says this small new camera is great for capturing life's decisive moments. And Huff explains why.

Huff's remark probably is building on photographer Cartier-Bresson's definition from 1952: "Photography is the simultaneous recognition, in a fraction of a second, of the significance of an event as well as of a precise organization of forms which give that event its proper expression.” So I knew right away that Huff brings perspective and that he is worth reading. He was and is.

Thanks for the link, Richard. This camera builds in the features that I have to cobble together for Nikon. James Bond would like this camera.

I get it, it's a Leica. But really, $4250 for a compact camera with a fixed, non zoom lens? Yikes. If I win the lottery, I want one. I also want an M9 and maybe a Hasselblad. Until then..... I wonder what is better? Cannon or Nikon?

The only thing wrong with this camera is the focal length they chose, 28 rather than 35, which is just a little too wide for my taste. I almost never use that full frame focal length.

My dream is a full frame monochrome camera from any company in that price range, preferably compatible the Leica M mount.

As it stands today, the only Bayer-less sensor today (effectively doubling the resolution) is the Leica Monochrome at about twice the price.

Until this happens, I will continue to use B&W film for my 35mm work non-color.

Fuji does not use a Bayer filter

Cannon for war, Nikon for photography.

Not specifically a Bayer array but a color filter array nonetheless. http://www.dpreview.com/articles/1785091776/fujifilm-files-patent-for-color-filter-array-with-different-sized-pixels

Another version is the Foveon sensor where the colors are stacked. http://www.13thmonkey.org/~boris/photos/Foveon/foveon-vs-bayer.html and http://www.ultrasomething.com/photography/tag/sigma-foveon-sensor-for-black-and-white-photography/

Nevertheless, the Leica Monochrom retains the pixel level precision that cannot be replicated by any of the color-first then B&W methods, despite the sharpening added with post processing. Even at 18 MP, its resolution can be arguably the equivalent of a 72 MP color array. But at this point, there are few lenses capable of delivering compatible resolution.

a hasselblad 501c is the much better camera, and the lens selection is phenomenal!

How does the selected formatting work? If you choose to save a 50mm focal length shot (along with the 28mm full frame raw, which apparently happens automatically), does that mean you are using only a portion of the full frame sensor? If so what are the consequences for image quality.
Why did Leica not choose more useful focal lengths in full format, such a combination 35-50-90mm instead of a 28-35-50mm (equiv.)? 50mm focal length (equiv.) is central to shooting 35mm full frame film format.
It is no doubt a Leica in the best sense of the word, and I would like to try it out. I still use a Model II which was my dad's and a IIIc that have run hundreds if not thousands of rolls through them, but this focal length (in mocel Q) seems of very limited usefulness and value.

I knew there had to be a really good reason for Leica to produce a purely monochrome camera. Now I know why they did it. It does make sense... but alas, it is a good idea that I still can't afford.
