Any of you smart engineer types . . . . . have any idea how they got this thing up on top of that bldg.? I first thought of a helicopter but I am not sure there is a helicopter that can lift that much weight. Must weigh in at 30 tons or so? Disassembly and then reassembly after you haul the pieces up there seems extremely expensive?

We have a erecting company here that has a mobile crane that can put 40 tons 150 feet high and it is old one they probably make larger ones now.

Well the average backhoe weighs in at around 20,000 lbs. The Ch-47A Chinook can carry a gross weight of 30,00 lbs. and that is not the heaviest lift chopper out there. All that being said the most probable and most common method is using a crane. The limiting factor is how high the building and even then a tower crane could be used. All of which can lift more than the backhoe weighs

I looked up the Sky Crane on the internet and it said the payload was 20,000 lbs. I bet that back hoe weighs more than that. See the previous answer and pictures. Now that makes sense to me. My only question is where do they find a driver that is so mentally challenged the he/she would get in that thing to get it up there?

Are you sure the picture isn't photoshopped? Why in the world would they demo a building that way..it looks way too dangerous. Moving around on a pile of rubble with little room to spare looke either insanely crazy or fake.

I think you're right. Do some of the offices look occupied?

While it is possible that this photo is a composite, This method of demolition is quite common when there is no room for implosion or street space to set up a crane. All they have to do is make sure the ceiling on the supporting floor is strong enough to support the equipment.

I looked it up myself. It seems that this is the way they do it in china. Debris is tossed over the edge.

I thought exactly what RonNH shared. Who would risk operating that equipment . . . . . . or "photoshop"
