I was wondering if there is any way to smoothen a face with any software. I have a friend who is very beautiful but has acne and she does not want it any pictures we take during a graduation ceremony. Any help on "how to" is appreciated.

Depending on how much you want to spend, you can go with Portrait Professional, Portraiture or a couple of other options.
You can also try Frequency Separation in Photoshop. There is a way to do that in PSP as well.

Yes, here is a destructive quick and dirty way to do it:

http://www.retouchpro.com/tutorials/acne/index.html

But if it were an important image, I would use a combination of non-destructive dodge and burn and frequency separation to accomplish a better looking result - to lessen acne in Portrait Pro you have to use the skin smoothing tool pretty aggressively, and in the process you end up smoothing away lots of skin texture - with a resulting skin texture similar to "Gumby."

I just got this plug-in and I hated the pre-sets. The individual slider bars work OK-- but I'm no expert. I don't do much portraiture anymore. Normally, I'd want to stay natural. Some of the results look pretty fake. I hate what the presets do to eyes: makes them look like glass.

If you are talking about Portrait Pro - yes, it is easy to overdo the corrections, and end up with silly results. You get better results if you make the adjustments more gradually and non-destructively in Photoshop.

I found an ad for a similar product yesterday. I'll see if I can find it.

Got it -

What program are you using to Post Process??? I use Paint Shop Pro and it has a "Makeup" where you select it and then you click on let's say a pimple and it covers it..There are other options. Of course it depends on how bad it is.

I use Portrait Professional, with many teenagers to make photos of it is a godsend. However, you can get silly with it, I limit the changes to blemish removal.

I've tried a bunch of different ways from Photoshop, Lightroom, to a few of the post processing software options.

In my opinion, the best out there is Portrait Professional.

It's relatively cheap and very effective and easy to use.

This is a key point.

It's better to zap the zits in photoshop first, and then give the skin a slight smoothing.

I have used PORTRAIT PROFESSIONAL which does an excellent job. Note that some of its features can be overdone.

I believe there is a free trial version available.

I'm not sure, but I think I was using a beta of that one. It worked well enough, though like any tools of this nature it's easy to over do.

onOne's suite has a Portrait module that I have come to fully appreciate. It's very similar to Portrait Pro, but I think it's more controllable. Probably just me, but it's a good product in my opinion.

This will probably be posted either prior to, or after mine, but Frequency Separation work really for this sort of thing.
