This may sound a bit weird, but when I shoot vertical the strap always gets in my way. Does anyone else have this problem and what did you do? Thanks.

Get a strap that connects at the bottom of your camera where the tripod connects. It never gets in the way there. Black Rapid.

I hook it differently than normal.
My body has three places you can connect the strap.
Top left, bottom left, bottom right.
I connect the strap on the top left and bottom right.

This also helps keep the lens where I want it when I have a camera hanging from my shoulder with another camera in my hand.

Sometimes it's just a matter of adjusting the neck strap length. What has worked for me is looping the strap once around my right hand wrist when doing vertical shots; this helps keep the strap away from the camera and lens. Of course this approach may require you to make the strap a few inches longer so that flexibility and comfort with the camera will not be inhibited.

Doesn't sound at all weird to me ...... in fact I experienced much the same thing. Result ? Most of the time I don't really enjoy carrying a camera around my neck or across my shoulder. So I just carry it ....... with one of these ..... £10 ($16 max) from eBay UK ...... light, comfy, easy to fix / remove ....... oh, and does not get in the way when "shooting verticle" !

Hook it over my thumb, left hand up in my case, Bob.

No, not really. But I never really think about it. It could with too short a strap for the way I shoot. I have many straps of varying lengths. I think the factory ones were close to being too short for what you are describing. I switched to using long "hippie" straps that look similar to guitar straps from my youth.

But I've seen what others are saying, having a third connection point, even if that is an eye on the tripod mount hole. I'd find that a pain.

That could be a solution for the OP. For me being arthritic, clumsy and paranoid about my equipment, I keep the strap around my neck unless the camera is on a tripod and then I worry the whole time. Oddly I have never broken any photo equipment in 36 years, at least not from dropping. :?

Nothing is perfect Jerry. I suppose that any strap 'could' fail after 2 years of use. I've been using a Black Rapid strap on my Canon camera for 4 years now and my 1DMkIV and 500mm f/4 with 1.4x weighs 13.8 pounds. This is what I always use and it hasn't failed yet. But I do inspect it for wear and if I see any I'll replace it or call Black Rapid..

No problem here. I just move the strap out of the way. No need for gimmicks, odd connections, etc. It's been a habit I've developed over the last 40+ years. In fact, I had to think about what I do after I read your post.
