I love the colour photo. Not too fond of black-and-whites, but that's personal preference.
Unfortunately, I think by cropping as much as you did, you also lost "the story" of the photo.
The B/W leaves you wonder if he's concentrating, worrying about something, just plain tired...
The colour shows that the look on his face is concentration.
I think I would have cropped the windows on either side but leave the autoharp (is that what it is, hard to tell) alone, so the story remains. Otherwise, well done!
Really Good, sharp color photo now a brilliant B&W portrait, real treat, thanks

Two different photographs. Noise handled well in both. The first I would crop from left to right as the brown and pink coat add nothing to the shot, and remove the blown highlights.
I like the tight crop of number 2 but it needs more pp. You have lost the checker pattern of his hat band and have a lot of blown highlights.
Try posting in the Photo Critque Section, many hogs with much more experience than I can really help you improve. They have me but that's not very hard to do.
Morning Star, yes it would look better with out the coats
Thank You for looking. David

Frank 2013 Thank You .

Although I normally don't like b&w portraits, I found yours to be intriguing. To me it's obvious he's concentrating on something and draws me into the picture. Of the two, I believe I actually like the close-up better. Good work.
Thank you for looking
