Any time any lens makes a different sound, something is wrong, or going wrong. That lens has a 6 year warranty, use it. Send it to Tamron, with a description of the problem, and ask for test and check and calibration to your specific camera model. It will be returned in about a week, and you'll be surprised at how it shoots.

Thank you for this reply.
I as well own a Tamron 150-600 (Great lens). I got it from my local camera shop = (Schiller's Camera - St. Louis) And I was the first photographer here to own one. It STILL works great on my Canon 5D MarkII And a 7D.
Sorry that the O.P. is having problems with his.
I shall keep this reply in mind when (and IF) it starts doing that "gear-grinding" sound.
By the Way = I traded in my Sigma 150-500 for it and got 400 dollars off the price of the Tamron. Schiller's IS One Great Camera Store. (Yes..... That IS a "plug" for that store.)
