Pilot.... I'm still new to most of this but I just don't see anything here. Looks to me like some kind of accidental shutter release. I'm open for an explanation. I don't really see anything shallow other than the pole.

Hi, Pilot,
Most non-nature abstracts are generally not my cup of Darjeeling, but this one is definitely not a walk-by on a gallery wall for me. It. This holds my eye while it tries different routes of travel throughout the image...still unsure why, but your plane of focus, constrained DOF, and full tonal spectrum keep me trying to find a means of resolving the confounded planes of this image.

Frank----no accidental release---------perhaps poor judgement. I got pretty much what I expected. Some of the shallowness has been cropped off. My objective is to make a strong non-objective composition straight from the camera. I appreciate your response. Bob

I think your judgement is intact, if Dave sees something there then you can bank on it. Thanks for the reply.

Your comments are gratifying but the questions raised, like the image's planes, confound me as well. I've been trying to shoot abstracts that are strong and that work as photographs, for decades. Many thanks for not walking by. Bob

Hi, Bob,
Again, as one with little personal experience producing (intentional) abstracts, I have observed that the major impact abstracts in many different media is precisely the unresolved questions they place in the mind of the viewer.
Such, I think, was the genius of Picasso, Rothko, Pollock, and of the image you've posted.

One man's opinion!

Dave------a worthy opinion----------but referencing my snapshot in the same sentence with those three guys is--well-------time for my shot of Geritol and the sack. Thanks. Bob

No hyperbole intended, Bob.
I pretend no in-depth knowledge of the abstract, but there are individual, abstract works that elicit in my mind essentially the same degree of fascination and wonder as does this image, and a number of the works by each of the other three abstractionists I mentioned. I hate to admit that I was well into my early thirties before I had to admit to not just fascination with, but admiration for a number of the works of the renowned...as well as of the lesser known...abstractionists.

Something about Dave's comments strike a chord with me. I like this .. but I think it could be better. I want more of an avenue for my eyes to travel. Keep at it .. I think you are on to something.
