No HDR
HDR Effect
I like them both. The HDR jumps just a tad more. I am a fan of HDR when it is done right and I like your treatment of this one. Looks good to me.
I have to agree, with the HDR each petal has its own distinction. I like it! Jen
I like both, but the 2nd just a tad more :)

Thanks Jen, I kinda like how the leaves came out on the second one. 8-)
I do HDR quite a bit, but not on flowers. The 1st is more colorful and stands on it's own. You lost color with the HDR. I would say flowers are so beautiful they don't need anything, buts thats JMO.
Hey Bmac ... this is an excellant example of HDR that is NOT over done! And the difference in the detail of the individual petals really stands out. Great job!!
I don't see it. The first photograph looks alive.

Thanks for your comments Ward. You have a point, I think it did lose a bit of pop due to the HDR. 8-)

I have nothing against HDR. When it works, it can be plum wonderful. Here, I don't think it works. I like the first non HDR image the best, and I will attempt to expain why.
The color of the flowers seem to pop and be more saturated in the non HDR image; however the leaves in this image do not pop, they tend to be more muted.
The color of the flowers in the HDR image seems to be less saturated, almost overexposed. The leaves in the HDR image are brighter, with more pop. . .bringing them up.
Here is what I see. The contrat between leaves and flowers in the non HDR image, giving better separation between the two. Hence, the flowers really jump out at the viewer.
With less contrast between the leaves and flowers in the HDR image (the tonal quality between the two almost matches), in a close up shot like this, it tends to make the image appear "flat".
Or, I could just have a goofy monitor???
