With the new a7iir just coming out you should get a good deal. A7 will serve you well.

I jumped from Canon to Sony mirrorless, a few months back, and just love this camera, lighter smaller faster, actually better pictures, but go for the A7II very minimum, primarily for the 5 axis image stabilization which the A7 does not have. I never looked back!

It is, my all accounts, a great camera. I'd suggest you study the whole camera SYSTEM you're buying into before making a final decision, and handling the camera to be sure it works well in your hands and the button array looks comfortable for you.

In the mirrorless systems there are many options. Some have more lenses than others, and for some the lenses are just as large as DSLR lenses, negating some of the reason for choosing a smaller camera. More information is always better with any investment.

If it is to be your only camera it will be wonderful.

But if you are keeping another system consider switching back and forth. While my Sony NEX-7 took great images and had better programming features (e.g. Panorama) than my Nikon D800 it annoyed me going from Sonyspeak to Nikonspeak. I eventually replaced it with a Nikon D5300...at some weight penalty but much improved satisfaction. Plus I can use all my Nikon lenses again...and they are significantly better than Sony.

Sony A 6000 is a great choice. I use the sony G pro lens 28-105 f4, the zeiss 24 f1.8, and the sony 50-f1.8 . I don't think I am giving up any quality with the zeiss or the g lenses Also use a carry sling for travel I would suggest a dedicated a 6000 book to learn all its many capabilities. Gary Friedman's on a 6000 is the best and includes his customized settings. Good luck

The only a7 series cameras I'd look at are the A7ii and the A7rii.

These have all been refined with the 5 axis stabilization and the better ergonomics

How big do you like to print?

Do you need FF? What's your overall budget. Those zeiss lenses can get pricey...

I have been using the Sony A6000 camera since mid December, it is a great way to get a smaller camera body that produces great images right out of the camera. Oh I forgot to mention it has 135 custom features that will make you love the camera even more. Here is a link to a vid that helped move me to ordering the Sony A6000
