Am I wrong in thinking that sand soccer is an unusual and little known sport? I did not hear of it until just a few years ago but then I am from an inland area with no beaches or sand.
For the past couple years we have been attending the North America sand soccer championships in Virginia Beach. This is pretty much like 'regular' soccer except it is played in the sand, usually at the beach.
Here are a mere 4 photos from the many I took at yesterday's matches.
Yes, I know these are all from the women's matches but they seemed to say something.
POW
Look at me, I can balance the ball on my ankle!
Which way is the ball? Left or right?
Oomph!

They've been playing that spot in California
[quote=hswader]They've been playing thCaliforniquoteCorrection,OK? I meant to say that 'sport has been played in Southern California for almost 50 years. I was living there in 1964 and it was being played on the beaches then. I didn't play, but have watched it several times. Just thought I'd try to mention that, ok? :-)

I would guess that sand soccer is more common in the beach towns on both coasts than in the interior areas such as, say, Iowa. This was from the US Open championships in Virginia Beach. VB has hosted the US Opens for about the last 25 years.
