I have the same problem Jim. And yes I have the 6 pin Red Label too.

Now that we are on the spotty tracking, I had that as well.
But once in a while, the mount seemed to go completely bonkers.
For Example: Wanting to get back to basics (without going to "Home" ) I entered Polaris. I thought the dumb thing was going to wind itself into a ball. I hit the main switch to stop it before it did any damage.
That didn't happen often, but once was enough to not look away while slewing. (In my case, with as many as 3 camera cords, I had to watch out anyway.)
Maybe 3-4 times in its short life.
Mine had NO "red tags" anywhere on it. So I'd imagine you guys with those red tag specials might be a little ahead of the one I got. ;) Probably even updated software (or firmware).
Mine also had a very early problem where it needed a
firmware update. "Alex" sent me an adapter so it would convert the cord to a USB port. And an email to a
Celestron page that walked me through feeding the hand control unscrambled brains.

He explained that some units needed that update after setting too long in storage. That was a bit illogical to me. But what the heck, I just wanted it to work and was relieved it did not require a trip back to fix it.
Unfortunately, Celestron has no serial number system. So, no real (external) tracking of an age for a mount. Only your proof of purchase date for a warranty start date, apparently.
There is no reason to doubt or panic about your mount.
If you have a problem, Celestron will take care of it.
If you are out of warranty, they will still work with you to get it right again.
They have a vested interest in helping their customers.
And... they are nice folks.
Clear Skies! And happy slewing. It is currently raining a tiny bit here. :?
