I have what may be a stupid question ....
Nikon picture controls such as standard, neutral, vivid ect, are they only applied to jpg or do they affect the raw file too? From what I have seen it appears picture controls only affect jpg.

Thanks

And it's not at all a stupid question :-)

Exposure compensation, (EV) will affect RAW files

Exposure compensation is not a picture control.

Yes, but...they therefore do affect what you see on your camera's LCD because it is a JPEG.

To quote one of my nursing instructors from days gone by, "There's no such thing as a stupid question; just the stupid mistake you made because you didn't ask the question in the first place."

yes, I know this. I was seeking to give a tip to the questioner, as it might be they wished to know that this DOES effect RAW shots

Thank you so much. Love someone who replies directly to the inquiry and avoids pedanticism.

They apply to .jpeg. Nikon sets the default sharpening for Picture Controls very low at level 3. It's best to go through all of them and bump the sharpening up to level 6.
