I enjoy wild life. Not to long ago, the family and I took a few hours off from care giving and off to the zoo in El Paso.
The lions were in a good mood and came a little closer to us. I am still learning and would like honest feedback and editing is welcome. STAR

Help please. I know the images could be better. suggestions ?

Nice clear shots... Just my opinion, too much background above the head is not part of the story. I like a tighter crop, a little more contrast, a little sharpening and color. My preference is to have the head in the top third of the frame. Keep shooting and enjoy the zoo.

Yes, I agree. The tigher crop is much better and the lion seems to be pop a little more. Thank you!

HOw did you get the fur on the lion to pop with color especially on the top of his head?

The "pop" is a photoshop technique I learned from someone here on UHH.
Image>adjustments>levels, in cs4 in levels there is a pull down menu with the option "midtones darker" then adjust brightness and contrast to taste. Try it you'll like it.

Um....

You seem to have the orientation of the camera the opposite way it needs to be in each shot...horizontal when it should be vertical...vertical when it should be horizontal...etc.

OR...that's just the way you are cropping them...I don't know.

I think you did a good job on sharpness and clarity. The exposure seems to be off a tad. That is one thing that I constantly can't seem to get right.

Agree with rpavich...Cropping them like that would be just as bad ! .Nice shots of the animals but would like to see more of the body in it`s surroundings. As portrait shots #1 my favorite.

The one thing that jumps out at me is you cut the feet off of 1 and 3. So I would crop in closer or include all of the legs and feet.

Here is my version of Picture 3. I used Simple Photoshop touch ups. I love the grace of the Lion.

Agree w/ rpavich re orientation. Hate liveeasy's version -- way too much of a good thing. Re the 2nd image, it's too late now, but when you're at a zoo and your background is clearly man-made, shoot wide open (or nearly so) to blur the background. F/u in PP as needed.
