I am new on here and would like some help. I'm not an avid photographer but I'm a wantabe. I want to buy a professional camera and learn how to use it. I know I'm probably starting backward. But I have been looking at a canon EOS 1D mark lV. Is this a good one or should I research more.

Its not the camera its the photographer. Yes it is a good camera. Nikon and cannon are the two most dominant brands used by professionals. Although others use olympus or pentax. Personaly i shoot nikon their quality in lenses is unmatched. go to a camera store and try different models to find which you are most comfortable with. May I sugest aiming for a lowerer priced prosumer camera and using what you save to buy the fastest(lowest f stop number like f1.8)lens you can afford. the lens more than the body that influences your photos. I would also consider signing up for a correspondence course in professional photography from the New York Instute of Photography. They advertise on this site, are over 100 years in the business and have a great reputation

Yes - that is a good camera, and yes you may be be gong about this in reverse. Yes - there are a whole lot of good to excellent cameras, and yes many have more features that most will ever learn how to use. I for one would never try discourage any one from buying anything they want or can afford as the stock market needs more consumer spending. As to which piece of equipment will make you a better photographer - that is in between your ears. Good luck.

Actually Sony has surpassed Nikon in use by professionals. Some Pros use micro 4/3rds format Olympus OM system, but almost NO pros use any Pentax anymore. You are a few decades behind. The CIPA numbers confirm that. Sony has been the fullframe mirrorless leader since they started that market segment. The Nikon fullframe mirrorless are getting better and better. The top News Services in the World have dropped their Nikon and Canon DSLRs and have gone fullframe mirrorless in the past 24 months for all their staff photographers and staff videographers worldwide.

Associated Press, UK Press, Canadian Press, all Gannett Media including USA Today have ALL gone exclusively to Sony fullframe mirrorless for all their staff photographers and staff videographers worldwide. AFP (Agence France Presse) helped develop the Nikon Z9, and uses the Z9 for its staffers. None of these top news services went to Canon mirrorless for their staffers, none.

The reason he is decades behind is that he had every right to be in 2011.

In your haste to once again promote Sony, you failed to notice that the thread and the post to which you are replying are 12 years old and your claims may not have been true in 2011.

Those facts kind of make your telling the poster that he is a few decades behind quite comical.

I'm at a loss to understand why and how people drag up these old discussions. This one is from 2011 and the OP hasn't posted here since. It happens regularly here. What's the point?

Not only is this a 2011 thread, the OP has only 2 posts on UHH. Both on this thread. Looks like (s)he gave up.

No I noticed the age of the post, and that is why I said he was decades behind, as he was. As a career journalist I know how to read. My post was just as tongue-in-cheek as yours is here. Read my words, I said "know the new reality" . Someone else revived this thread back to the top, that wasn't me. LOL

Cheers and best to you too.

The timestamps say you're guilty, regardless of your equivocations.
