The two local camera shops in my area only carries ProMaster. I was wanting to buy a CPL filter for my new Sigma lens. I need a 77mm and can get a standard CPL ProMaster filter for $69.99. Has anyone experience with ProMaster? The price is not out of line as Amazon gets $64.99 for the same filter. I really could not care less who's name is on a product so long as it is not junk. Had several people tell me ProMaster is rebranded Hoya ......

I was recently in the market for a 82mm CPL. I wanted a good one so, I was looking at B+W, Helopan, Ziess and other premium brands.

Then I happened across a ProMaster, then did some research. It seems that they are produced by Hoya for ProMaster. I could not find any negatives concerning this filter. ProMaster doesn't seem to be as well known as other popular brands.

Price is usually a fair indicator of quality but, not always. My filter lists for $279 and retails just about everywhere for $225. I have not have a chance to do any tests with mine but, I'm betting it will not disappoint. The quality looks and feel extremely nice though. I decided to give it a try since I won a new, unopened one for $99 on ebay ;)

Each brand seems to have a fairly large price range. It also seems that the more light you want to get through your filter, the more money you have to spend.

Even though ProMaster isn't as well known as many others, I'm betting it will not disappoint.

P.S. I got mine for my new Sigma lens also  :D Mine is this one, PROMASTER Digital HGX CPL Circular Polarizer Filter 82mm (#2468) with Repellamax

I own the Tamron 150-600 and it has a Promaster UV filter on it. I recently took this image with stacked Kenko 1.4 and 2X teleconverters. The mountain goat was at least 1/4 mile away high on a mountain side. Gary

I mostly use B&W premium multicoated filters and/or others with brass or titanium rings. I have tried less expensive filters in the past but have not been satisfied. I have purchased all current filters from B&H.

The same name is used on tripods. Let us know how your new CPL works.

Personally I would not purchase Promaster filters. Not that I have experience with them, but numerous very frugal friends do. And all of them have been unsatisfied and purchased other brands. Now they have Promaster filters that are collecting dust.

Interesting and informative video. These days, I tend to lean more towards Hoya and B+W filters, but I do have a ProMaster CPL (58mm) that I bought about 5 years ago. I pulled it out and, following the test shown on the video, the ProMaster CPL performed quite well - blackening out my computer screen completely. So, I guess I'll be using it again more often. :-)

It may be OK, but I personally recommend only multi-coating on any filter.

 Plus, B+W (and Heliopan) filters have brass rings, which many find desireable.
