I have an older Profoto tripod that was given to me. Is it possible to replace/change the head? Thank you, Paul

Try to unscrew it, looks like it will come off.

Thanks, it came off and I assume any quality head will fit.

It depends on the thread post on the tripod. All Pro and Semi-Pro heads have a 3/8" thread socket on them. Many of these older cheap tripods only had a 1/4" stud boly for head mounting. You can add a better quality head by using a 1/4" - 3/8" reducer bushing in the head socket if that is the case.

Thanks MT, my son took the old head off and it's 3/8. I'm looking at getting a pistol grip with a quick release for the tripod and get a monopod with the same head so I can switch between the two. I don't know which brand yet. Gotta save up more pennies. Just got a P900 & I love it.

If you're looking for a pistol grip head, I recently bought an Opteka for my Manfrotto monopod. I really like this head because it's easy to use. The one drawback is that it's a bit heavier than I thought and the head combined with the monopod can be a bit of a burden.
A friend of mine just gave me an older manfrotto tripod but it didn't have the mounting plate. The Opteka plate & Manfrotto plate are interchangeable so I Binged it and got 3 spares for $12.
