When I retired it took me 6 months to get my "old job" out of my head, 3 more months to become very bored, and 3 more months to start consulting part time. Turns out I really enjoyed what I used to do full time.

Good for you. I was glad to get out as soon as I could. I love retirement.

I have never been bored since I retired. Hobbies, helping family and friends, volunteer work, schools, home and yard maintenance, whew! Got to sit down/slow down! I LOVE retirement. One of the best parts is all the friendly advice and conversations here on uglyhedgehog. I start each day here and look forward to the artful photo images, sage advice, and humor. Photography is a lifelong hobby of mine, not a burning passion. I marvel at many of artistic images posted here, I just take nice pictures. My SLRs are retired and I am happy to use point and shoots. Life is good.
I spent some time chatting with my son who lives in Dallas in a video chat and then went for a motorcycle ride. After supper, I am going out for a walk. You can work if you want, but retirement is for me.
Some days are relaxing, when you are retired, others are not.
I loved my main job, and my part time job (right up to near the end), however nowdays I don't miss it at all.
It gave us a chance to travel, and for myself get back into photography and for my wife to get back into singing (choirs, not to mention visting our children and grandaughter.
I was ready when I retired. The bones just couldn't put up with the job any longer. I found out that I had just one big problem when I retired. I used to run service from a van and all my tools were in it. Need a tool go to the truck. Now I spend 1/2 an hour trying to find tools that are stored all over the house and garage. Oh they're all in neat draws or tool boxes, but I never seem to find the right one until I've searched a while. I'm thinking of starting a card index like the library, the next time I feel like working.

I retired three years ago but ended up being offered consulting work and started working again after just 3 months. For the 3 months I was retired I found that there just wasn't enough time to do all the things I wanted to each day. When I finish whoring myself out in 3 more years I look forward to picking up where I left off. I have an actual bucket list which I intend to get through.

I love retirement and although I had a little very part time job, I gave that up after my accident. I also find I love the fact that there is no time frame to my day. I do what I want when I want. my stress is non existant and I want to keep it that way. no more work for me unless I want to, and I don't. As a retired RN, I just can't see myself doing that work anymore. too many years of taking care of other people. now taking care of myself. deb
I'm retired, don't do anything, only problem is you never know when you're done.
No actually I do keep busy in the wood shop when it's not too hot or cold. Wood shop is 40 x40 with a lifetimes full of purchased equipment.
If temperatures are too extreme there is photography, travel, reading. Don't miss my old job, just the people that were friends for 30 years, after moving still keep in touch with some.

I enjoyed my job, but I really love retirement! Just not enough hours in the day for golf, fishing, photography, hunting and vacations! Oh well, one day I may have to retire from retirement.

Now that I am retired, I wonder how I ever found time to go to work!
