I am out looking for a new dslr camera and found this at a local dept store. I was just curious if anyone has ever heard of it or used it. Any suggestions or answers will be appreciated!
It's a General Electric DSLR that I am talking about....never heard of the brand...much less a camera made by general electric. How about you?
I have a GE X500 have not had it for long but will attach a couple of pics that I took with it so you can see (remember I am just a newbie with the camera world)
Wow! I liked the photos! I am a newbie myself, and trying to learn everything about photography. I see it takes awesome photos!
Unless they've changed, the GE Camera offerings have a somewhat small sensor..
They can certainly produce pleasing images, but there will be limitations compared to the standard APS-C size sensors in mainstream DSLRs
Thank you LarryD, will keep that in mind. I am still just looking around for now.....from what I hear Nikon is awesome. I have also heard the same about Canon and Olympus....I guess whatever will be the easiest to handle, will be the one I buy!
I have a 16mp GE point and shoot, for those quick photos I carry everywhere, its a great camera, not sure about the DSLR. I use a Canon.
You may want to go with a serious camera manufacturer like Nikon, Canon, Sony, Pentax... and stay of away from general consumer dapples. There are also other good cameras but these seem to have been the big boys for the last few years. Decades for Nikon, Canon, and Pentax and if you count the Minolta years, Sony as well. I still have my Minolta 201 from the `60s and two of my fathers Nikon Fs. They are all film cameras but they still work. Go to
www.dpreview.com for good evaluations. Stay away from tiny sensors unless this is to be a very very casual hobby where you never print anything bigger than a 4x5 or post to FaceBook.
GE does not make a DSLR. They have bridge cameras. A bridge camera is a point and shoot, they are in between a compact digital and a DSLR. Look on eBay for an inexpensive DSLR. I recommend a Canon 10D. One sold yesterday for $100.00 without a lens. With a lens, probably around $200.00. I have two of these cameras that I paid less that $100.00 for. When this camera came out in 2003, it was in the semi professional class. Try to find one with a low shutter count.

General Electric MARKETS digital cameras they don't make any consumer electronics at all. I would suspect the manufacturer is Casio, Epson, or some other Chinese factory that will give them the cheapest wholesale cost and slap their label on it. GE radios are the worst sounding on the market. GE TVs are mediocre at best. GE appliances are average. God forbid you ever need service on a GE camera.
Stick with the big guns for a dSLR. As has been said on here about 16,000 times so far - Nikon, Canon, Sony are the biggest players although Olympus, Pentax, and others also make nice stuff.

No, and I'm not sure I want a camera made by them. I've owned their appliances and been really underwhelmed.
Thank you all for your replies....made up my mind which one I will be buying!
