Thought I may as well get something out of it. Thanks, Angela!
Nice Black Rat Snake. Handy little buggers to have around for rodents. At the cost of an egg once in awile it still saves on traps and poisons, and a lot safer too.

So true, Didereaux! Used to have a few rats and mice that would eat the chicken feed all the time. They are now gone. and it's worth an egg or two now and then.

Thanks for looking and commenting, Gary!
Wonderful you had a camera to catch an unusual event. Made me think about why you'd be in this situation which then too made me think of a famous metaphor from Uncle Abe ....
If I saw a venomous snake crawling in the road, any man would say I might seize the nearest stick and kill it; but if I found that snake in bed with my children, that would be another question. I might hurt the children more than the snake, and it might bite them. Much more if I found it in bed with my neighbor's children, and I had bound myself by a solemn compact not to meddle with his children under any circumstances, it would become me to let that particular mode of getting rid of the gentleman alone. But if there was a bed newly made up, to which the children were to be taken, and it was proposed to take a batch of young snakes and put them there with them, I take it no man would say there was any question how I ought to decide!

I usually keep my camera on the golf cart when I ride to the farm to check on things. But it always has the 55-300mm lens on it, so I had to ride back home and get the 18-200mm to get a better pic. I knew it would take him some time to get the egg down.
