Why do you suppose 42nd street is cheaper?

42nd St photo is not well thought of here. Stick to B&H and Adorama for new gear and also keh.com for used gear.

Be very careful buying anything from 42nd Street. You may end up with grey market gear. If you use them, make sure that you get what you pay for.

I've never dealt with 42nd Street but I have that lens and it's a great lens! It's also the only new lens I've bought that's gone up in value! I paid $339 new in Feb. 2014, Sony version, from Amazon; Amazon currently has it new for $499.

Tamrons lenses are MAP priced so any USA warranted lens will cost the same no matter where you buy it. Anyone selling for less is selling grey market and is usually not worth giving up the 6 year warranty.

Ignore 42nd st and other deals that appear to be too good to be true. You will have fewer surprises dealing with reputable retailers.

I'd stick with B&H, ask them about the price difference, look for Hershel on the HOG, perhaps he can help.

NEVER! I MEAN NEVER! My experience with 42nd St. was purchasing a Canon camcorder a 3 years ago. They delayed shipment two days, then the salesman called me to explain some "stocking difficulty" but "before we ship, you really 'need' to add a Canon recommended SD card. The camera won't work right with the normal high-speed card. The new card is $149, but as my customer I can offer it for only $120, if you add it now." Of course this didn't make sense and I had done my homework and didn't bite.

I then went to Canon and was informed that this whole thing was bogus. When I looked at the manual, it had no such specification.

Never deal with any outfit that will lie to make an upsell. They are one of two on my blacklist. (The other is Abes of Maine).

That makes it unanimous. I'm not the only one.

You've received excellent responses as it pertains to 42nd St, so I won't go there.

I had purchased this lens several years ago and simply was not satisfied with it. I use Nikon, so I sent the Tamron back and got the Nikkor 17-55 instead. Much more satisfied with it. Your results may be different.
