My macro photography has been a struggle this spring. I was running out of options. I have a Tamron 180mm macro lens. I just checked my minimum focusing distance and found it is approximately 18". I thought it was closer to 6". No wonder I couldn't get a shot in focus. Well at least there are many more flowers left in this spring. I,am sure I knew that at 1 time but forgot and got mixed up. Chalk it up to old age. Lol. Now I shall be able to post some good shots.

Minimum Focusing Distance is measured from sensor to subject, and per http://www.tamron-usa.com/lenses/prod/180mm.php#ad-image-0 "Specs" page, MFD is 18.5-inches.

Minimum Working Distance is measured from lens front element to subject, and on a Nikon or Sony, MWD is about 270-mm = 10.6-inches. On a Canon, MWD is 288-mm = 11.3-inches.

The MWD of my 105-mm macro lens is 157-mm = 6.2-inches. You have a 5-inch advantage to capture the same 1:1 image.
