Looking to buy a macro lens, such as the Sigma 150-mm f/2.8. Can someone provide opinion about this lens? Or would the Sigma or Nikon 105-mm f/2.8 be a better choice? Want to shoot little critters with out getting on top of them. Thanks in advance, Rich

I use a Nikkor 105G, and my Working Distance (WD) is about 6-inches (front lens element to subject) to capture 1:1 (life-size). I usually shoot a bit farther away to increase DOF, then crop to acquire at least 1:1 in final JPG.

A 150-mm macro lens on an APS-C sensor, should capture 1:1 at approximately 9-inches (225-mm) WD.

You will have to use lenses designed for full frame (FX) photography, like the Nikkor 105-mm macro, which will not reach 1:1 without extension tubes. I believe that will be common to most macro lenses.
