Just trying to raise the general level of discourse here. A thankless job, I know, but somebody's gotta do it!

Feel free to contribute to the effort.

Your pontificating on good manners would come across more genuine and t***hful if it wasn't for your own snarky insults you have indulged in along the way. If you have repented for and retracted them then I retract my observation.

well, if my post "disgusted" you, as you say, you must be pretty thin-skinned….The Attic is not a place for such sensitive folks as you...

If you libs would go to church, that would raise the discourse level several orders of magnitude. But that's as likely as any of you saying Obarmy is wrong.

He usually bolts when called on his specious posts. Nothing different this time.

They don't want the Attic to get controversial. Just as long as we swallow every piece crap they put out there like Boehner's republicans do.

If you will re-read my last paragraph you will note that I said nothing about the political affiliations of those resorting to ad hominem attacks. Here is that paragraph:

"When the discussion degrades into ad hominem attacks no real communication is possible. Perhaps this is what some of our nastier members are after? Do they only want a chance to write their names in excrement? Is that the extent of their mental faculties?"

A case of "if the shoe fits, wear it," I suppose.

Please note that I said "supposedly witty."

Thanks for the post! I am hardly a conservative on many issues but I can enjoy a spirited, cordial, POLITE discussion with conservatives. Often such a discussion can lead to either party modifying their position, or at least admitting that the opposing position was not arrived at by chance. I can respect someone who's argument is well supported and properly presented in a mannerly fashion, even if I feel they are wrong.

When the discussion degrades into ad hominem attacks no real communication is possible. Perhaps this is what some of our nastier members are after? Do they only want a chance to write their names in excrement? Is that the extent of their mental faculties?

Some of us feel that good manners should always be used, EVEN or perhaps ESPECIALLY in The Sewer.

That would have been the appropriate response. It would be nice if some semblance of manners was displayed, even in The Attic.

Rand Paul has risen a little in my estimation

For once, Rac, I wholeheartedly agree with you. The wholesale politicizing of any and all issues in The Attic is d********g.

Ah, and once again a thread expressing sympathy to the Biden family on the untimely death of their son Beau has degenerated into childish insults. Why don't you folks grow up?
I like your style! I'd bet you were liked and res... (show quote)

maybe I just don't know what snarky means

snark·y
ˈsnärkē/
adjective | NORTH AMERICAN | informal
(of a person, words, or a mood) sharply critical; cutting; snide.
"the kid who makes snarky remarks in class"
cranky; irritable.
"Bobby's always a bit snarky before his nap"

Are you saying that Christians are smarter than you, and way smarter than Obama's followers (if he has any left)?
