Crystal Ball on Nikon 7100 Pricing

In the beginning of the year, there was active discussion on the price of the Nikon 7100 dropping once the 7200 came out. The newer model is now out and the price of the 7100 has come down to $899 for the body only , down from $999.
Is that the drop people expected? Will there be further reductions in the near future? It appears the release of the newer model has not made much of an impact on the 7100 price.

That would be a question more appropriately addressed to Nikon. All anyone here can offer is an uninformed opinion, myself included.

I realize the wisdom of your response for certainty but this did not stop the active discussions earlier in the year. More generally, my question calls on the experience of the members here as to how long the price of a camera holds firm as newer models are released.

Considering it came out just over 2 years ago and has dropped $300.00 I look for it to stay the same till(if) the D7300 comes out.

The D7100 was and continues to be a highly popular camera. IMO the price will not decline much from its present level any time soon.

See where the d7000 has landed and you will have an idea. The d7200 price will come down also. The desire for an object and what it is worth to you are the two big questions that you need to ask. Once stars align, time after without desired object is time wasted.

It has a lot to do with supply & demand.
I suspect D7100 prices will continue to come down until all the inventory is sold. After that you will need to look at the used market.

It would cheapen the line if they lowered the price just to unload them.

The 100,000 ISO is fiction -- marketing hype. The 7200 is not significantly better in low light than the 7100 and like all crop sensor cameras way inferior to any current Nikon full frame.

thank you crystal ball! now i'll stop dreaming & get on with learning how to push what i have. i would like to get this camera to equal what i could do with the f2 & tmax -- i did a lot at 25,000. now it's play time with the digital.

On August 1st, I predict the price will be $437.67.

I think the price depends on two factors:
1, if it is still being produced.
2, if not, then just how many are left and will they just sell out normally.

No matter what the stock is, I predict the last dozen will go for $99 just as a last hurrah!!
But you'll have to be both QUICK and LUCKY!!!
