Purchased Lightroom 6 from Adobe. I'm not really interested in being part of the Creative Cloud hostage program. After several attempts to download from my order page and getting server unavailable messages, I was forced to contact Adobe's customer service. They provided me a link that required an update via Creative Cloud. Guess what ... more server unavailable messages:

"The server is not responding currently. Please try after some time.(Error code: 207) Get help"

The on-line chat tech advised me to wait and try again in a couple of hours. Tried that last night and again this AM.

So now I wait for them to respond to my help request AGAIN! AUGHHHHH

The very reason I don't want to be tethered to the cloud. Guess I'll move forward in my plans to move over to Phase One. Any other opinions?

Is your objection to the subscription payment model or the "tethered" bit? If the latter only, then you don't need to worry since everything works fine without a connection, except for phoning home once a month or so.

Actually both. I understand Adobe's method of insuring income in-perpetuity though I don't like it. I don't like the tethered idea because as you see I am experiencing issues with their wonderful update idea.

I just attempted again to get my download or an update to CC and had server unavailable issues. I don't have problems with any other download site just Adobe. I've wracked my brain for any issues on my end, disabling anti-virus, firewall etc. To no avail.

Adobe does seem quite challenged in the connectivity department. I get connections usually, but it seems unreasonably slow much of the time.

Capture One is great software - and you have the option of being their hostage at $10/mo too. Or pay the $300 plus $99 upgrade each time they upgrade their software.

You are not "tethered to the cloud" when using CC - I call that a Zombie Myth. It merely checks once a month to confirm subscription. And if you have no internet connection, they do not shut you down if you can't connect.

You probably know this already but....,when you subscribe to Abobe CC, the software actually resides on your computer. You are not relying on the Adobe servers for anything other than updates (and the occasional check in to validate your subscription).

Yes I am aware of that. But in this case Adobe's fix to my inability to download LR 6 from my orders page was to download a LR trial copy via CC and then insert my serial number. This would be fine if I didn't get the message to try again later. Which never cleared at all this weekend. Hostage or not CC failed for me and I remain unable to get my copy of LR that has been paid for from my bank account.

Happy shooting.

hmm . . . it seems you are a hostage anyway - they got your money and have not delivered product - :)

All kidding aside, do you have antivirus or a firewall running? It may be detecting the download as malicious. Something to check.

It can be frustrating when you get that "Try later" message, especially when they already have your money. I had a similar problem with Apple - payment but no download. I called the CC company and got credit for the purchase.

Thanks for the tip. But unfortunately that was the first thing I tried before calling Adobe tech support. I'm one of those people that hates to call for help before exhausting all known (to me) troubleshooting techniques. Tried all three browsers... Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Chrome. Nothing except try again later.

This is the very reason I hate the idea of software as a service. Old coot that I am. I'm reminded of the debacle Intuit created several years ago for subscribers to their on-line payroll service. Subscribers were down as much as three days unable to access payroll files. Nope, not me.

If Adobe doesn't come up with an answer today when they likely have a full tech support staff on, I'll cancel the order and move on. I can continue with LR 5, I liked the features of 6 but I won't die without them.

Meanwhile I'll continue to think about changing. I do have Capture One Express that I purchased a while back so I can upgrade that. Also Corel Aftershop Pro - it's still a little clunky, and ACDsee but don't particularly care for it.

Happy Shooting

FWIW, I signed on to CC 2 years ago - and have had no issues, other than the hiccup when I downloaded LR6 and it wouldn't run initially. I logged out of CC, logged back in with my username and password, and it fired right up. As much as I like Capture One - which I used for a couple of years before switching to LR, being able to use plugins was a big reason for the change.

But I do understand your frustration.

A reason I have Ps CS6 from a DVD ROM, as well as Lr 4 (that I have not really gotten into using), and I have also on disk PSE 7 and PSE 9 that came with hardware purchases. I put PSE 9 on my wife's new PC, pretty nice compared to 7, I might get PSE 13 for it.

Some people seem to have problems with program DLs others don't. Even though I have Hard Copies of my Adobe software, the updates all come from their web site or "Cloud". Worked OK for me.

So I'm at my office computer with a fiber optic internet link that screams ... I just attempted to log in to the support portal to check the status of my support ticket. Guess what... I can't log in as the Adobe server hangs.

Yep. I save all downloads of new software and any updates with copies of the invoices and relate e-mails to my NAS and a backup drive that travels in my briefcase. I learned my lesson about backups a long time ago.

Thanks to all for responding.

Happy Shooting
