Thinking of posting some of my shots,

I am not familiar with Amazon Web Services but I have been using SmugMug for about 3 years and I am very happy with them. I got my own website name registered on the internet and use it on my SmugMug. If you use Lightroom, you can upload to SM directly from LR making it quite easy. And lastly, if you have a problem, SM has a great help group. They have 3 different plans. I think I pay $60 per year but there is one for about $30.

I did a lot or research & checked out all their selections, and it does look good, but, can't always believe everything "THEY" tell you.
Thanks for the reply.

I've been a Smugmug user since 2007 -- love it -- no problems. I'm on the "Power Plan" as I don't sell nor have any intention of doing so. If you're going to sell photos/prints, you'll need one of the other plans that includes e-commerce.

I just started with SmugMug in Jan 2015.

Takes a little getting used to how the system works, but they have lots of videos and live chat help during the week.

.... and both of us can get a small discount with the link in my signature.

Don't plan on doing any selling, just wanting to get my feet wet, and probably being a bit over cautious.
Thanks for your reply.

And everything I've received so far indicates this to be a fair & safe venture. I'll check out your suggestion.

No problem. I see you mentioned something not selling in an earlier post. I don't either. I use it so that my family and friends (from all parts of the world) can stay in touch with us (through my photos) and can either buy photos through the website (no markup) or download the images for thier use.

I've been with SmugMug for several years. Never a problem, super friendly and helpful support. For what it's worth there is also direct upload from Aperture. A new feature that allows you to limit access to a gallery to just those people that you explicitly invite is a great upgrade. You can see my SmugMug site here

I am not sure what you mean by "Amazon web services?". I have been storing my images on "Amazon Cloud" for about 2 months now and think that it is a good place. It is not interactive as a community like other places, but for storage it great at $12 a year for unlimited photos (each less than 2gb). Amazon also has a good privacy policy unlike Google an FB. As with any thing, learning how it works takes a little experience, but I am finding it friendly and easy to understand.

AWS is very good at what they do. If Netflix can run on AWS so can Smugmug. http://www.pcworld.com/article/2691772/how-netflix-survived-the-amazon-ec2-reboot.html

Your issues if any will be with smugmug.

There are plenty of good reasons why businesses don't want to use AWS for certain things but reliability is not usually one of them.
