My step daughter has asked me to shoot her wedding. I'm renting a package from Borrow Lenses that has a 16 mm. F1.4 fisheye lense in it . I would like to take a fisheye shot from above the wedding because I have never seen a shot like this for a wedding. My question is how high do you think I need to get the lense and any reccomendations for a tripod to hold a D80 and the lense. The wedding will be small around 80 - 100 people including the wedding party.

The lens needs to be at the height that gives the view you want. The tripod needs to attain that height, and should be rated at about twice the weight of the camera and lens.

Your step daughter has asked a lot. Best of luck to you.
It's going to be hard to keep a tripod out of the picture. Can you set the shot up before hand, have the camera attached, somehow, and remotely fire the shutter?
It would be interesting if everyone was looking up at the camera. Try it with some standins to see if that's what you want.

When I take a straight-ahead picture with a fisheye, I have to be careful that me feet aren't in the shot. That'll give you an idea of how much a fisheye can take in. I hope you get it enough ahead of time so you can practice. A fisheye can give that weird effect, or it can look almost normal, and processing can make it look even better.

Thanks to everyones responses . I will get to shoot the rehersal to get some practice at the venue. Any one have a choice of tripods for this type of shot, I think I should be at least 12 to 20 feet high. Thanks for any help.
I think you will need a skyhook!
All kidding aside, a fisheye will give you a great prospective of the wedding party. Try some shooting up and them looking down and some above and the party looking up.

I could do it with my Quad...if you were in Phoenix, or willing to pay travel expenses.
A fisheye looks cool on the dance floor too.
I believe the 16mm fisheye lens is for FX format. With the D80 it's not all that wide.

I agree, you need not worry about your feet getting into the frame, that is for sure. This is just a wide lens making circular images, not a ultra wide lens that has a 170-180 degrees coverage.

Sounds like a good creative shot. But it is a shot. One of many.
You are going to take other pics too right? Please don't focus too much on one shot think about the overall event and how best to capture it.
One of those gyro copters can great birds eye views as long as you are in a cathedral.
