I like the first one, it has depth and perspective to it. Your limited DOF serves to amplify the effects of both.
Looks like you'll be doing just fine with your macro efforts.

Absolutely agree. A macro-photograph is life-size on the sensor (exact same size as subject) or larger. PO's final image of a Phillips-head screw is the closest to a macro.
