I would go with new. At $1039 the Sigma has a 4 year warranty and that makes it a bargain in my book.

I have a Tamron (Nikon mount) 200-500MM lens. It is like new. I haven't used it much -- find it is just too much lens for me. If you are still interested, let me know. Comes with lens hood, tripod mounting ring and both front and rear lens caps. It takes beautiful pictures. And I am about an hour away from Mission Viejo, so you wouldn't have to buy it sight unseen.
