Olympus OMD 5 Mark II RAW files

I just learned from Adobe that in order for Lightroom to read the RAW files
from this new camera I have to purchase the subscription because the stand alone version of Lightroom 6 will not support these files. I only use Lightroom as my editing software (with Nik plug-ins) and don't want to purchase the subscription (I'm also happy with Lightroom 5.7 that I now own that reads all my other RAW files). Is this true? And if so does anyone have any work-arounds or suggestions? I also have my entire library in Lightroom.

Try using the Olympus software to convert to TIFF.

If that file is too large, make it smaller with lossless compression.

Adobe wants every user of every product to be paying a monthly fee. It is their corporate strategic plan. Don't expect them to be much help getting around it.

Or use the Adobe DNG Converter 8.7.1
Free from Adobe, and it will convert your Olympus E-M5II raw files.

It is available for both Mac and Windows.

Could I also use the Olympus software included in the box to convert to DNG that Lightroom 5.7 would read? After conversion then put them into the library?

Try it. There's more than one way to skin a cat.

If you convert to DNG, Lightroom can use it.

The doesn't make sense to me. They are selling Lightroom 6 as a standalone product and a main reason to buy it is to support a new camera. Maybe Lightroom standalone version hasn't yet made the upgrade to support the new raw format.Call Adobe and speak to another person.

I hate 2 or 3 step work-arounds, but sometimes there is no other way.

The OMD 5 Mark II is a relatively new model. It always takes a couple months for Adobe to catch up and release updates for ACR for their various products, after a new camera model is introduced. I think in this case it was compounded by the coincidental timing of the releases of both the camera and of LR6.

In time, I'm sure both the stand-alone LR6 and Elements 13 will be able to handle the new Oly's files.

Perhaps what Adobe is doing is releasing updates for their "cloud" products first... in order to push people to buy into subscription software, rather than their stand-alone products.

The good news is that if it's avail. for the CC version, it can't be very far behind for the stand-alone version. How much difference can there be between them? Should be no difference, theoretically... But it may work more in Adobe's favor to drag their heels on the stand-alone update, if their marketing push it so get people to buy CC instead. Just sayin'...

Where did you find this out? I've not seen any references to it. I hang out in m43 forums a fair amount and usually someone will complain about a thing like this. If you wanted, you could try it yourself with the 30 day trial. It would seem silly for Adobe to develop two different versions of LR for issue at the same time, but they've done other things I thought silly so it is conceivable.

But if it's true, you can indeed use the Oly software to develop your photos or convert them to a format that any version of LR will recognize. Lots of people do this because they like the way the Oly software renders their images.
