I have used Dropbox in the past to share photos and there was never any problem but I posted some photos the other day and sent them to two friends. One said the photos were too small to view and the other said you had to start an account to view them.

I tried Shutterfly and sent the invitation to my laptop using my second email address. They also wanted me to join to view the files.

Is there a free site where the recipient doesn't have to join anything to view photos?

Thanks a lot.

I use Flickr and it works well for my purposes. Free and 1TB of storage. Others can view without registering for an account, but they have to register if they want to comment on a photo. It also is real easy to export/publish to Flickr from Lightroom...

I use Google+, which used to be Picasa, and I've started using Flickr again.

Here's a link I was trying to find from a few days ago, talking about Google Drive.

Flicker and Tumblr would both do it, Flickr is photo sharing and Tumblr is a blog site

I use a few sites, all slightly different, but each works well for sharing, storing, and commenting. Each as basic features that come free and upgraded ones that you pay for.

http://www.digitalrev.com -- my favorite at the moment

https://www.fotki.com -- basic, good, all sorts of photographers

https://500px.com -- accomplished photographers, I only post my best shots

I've used Dropbox for a couple of years now. I have one folder shared with my brother, so either one of us can add or delete photos from that folder.
For other photos I just right-click the individual photo or a whole folder and select Share Dropbox Link, then email my contact(s) that link.

The advantage of sending the links rather than the images themselves, is that they can get the message on their phones and download the image on their home computer when they can. For two of my friends this can be weeks or even months later.

Most of the share sites will allow you to share links with people who are not signed up - I know Dropbox does and I'm pretty sure Shutterfly and Flickr do too. When the person looks at your invitation, they WILL see an encouragement to sign up, but if they look further, usually a bit further down the invitation, they will see the link that allows them to see the images without joining up. Most of these services are free though, and your friends may find some benefit in joining. With dropbox, if you want a friend to actually be able to log in and see a shared folder that you can both add stuff to, both would need to join.

The size of the images may be related to the way you posted them, or the program the friend viewed them in.

Very nice images, Don. Thanks for pointing out the link. I particularly liked many of the flower and general landscape shots. /Ralph

Thanks Ralph. If you looked thru all of the images you would see that the first ones looked pretty bad ;) After 2 camera's and cataract surgery they have gotten a bit better ;)

I keep working on improvements though it never stops! :)

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I'm sure I'll find a suitable site.

Read the fine print. A daughter of a Christian acquaintance of mine posted a photo of herself on one of these sites and found it on a billboard promoting abortion. Legal counsel told them that in the fine print she agreed that the company had the right to use/sell any posting. Hard to believe.

You might consider Smugmug. There visitors have the option of viewing "public" images, or purchasing finished photos. My site is photosjusforyou.com.
