I just made an order thru Amazon. If I get "Prime" membership,I can have the order by Friday,May 22.

Without Prime,I will receive the order between June 15 and June 30.

I cancelled the order and labeled my experience as Extortion. Pay for Prime or screw you is what they're saying. I do not want the other benefits, just send my order in a reasonable amount of time.

I'm in no particular hurry, within a couple weeks would be fine, but up to almost six weeks is sending me a message. I got the message.

How is you buying a product, them shipping it to you at a known date but also offering you a service wherein you get free video rental, two day shipping and kindle book loaning service, deemed extortion exactly?

We've been using Amazon Prime for years and are quite satisfied with it. Sorry you couldn't see/use the other benefits.

If all you want is shipping in a reasonable time,as they have done for years, you now have to pay $99 a year.

In my opinion,25 to 40 days is not reasonable. I'm not looking for 2 day shipping,I don't rent videos or use Kindle.

If they take a week to process and a week in transit,I could understand and it's cheaper for them as well.

You always have the option to pay for shipping on a per item basis right? Or is it that you want FREE shipping?

BTW - I have been using PRIME myself and think it is a good bargain - no matter what I want, no matter how small of an item, free 2 days delivery - even on Sunday for a $2.00 purchase, plus unlimited free photo storage, free music and videos. For 100.00 a year not a bad deal.

BTW - you could have placed the order, signed up for a 30 day prime trial, received the order in 2 days then canceled prime if you did not want it at no cost ;)

That's not the definition of extortion in case you were wondering. I think you used that word incorrectly.

You should have said: "Amazon offered a shipping speed that I'm unhappy with and I'm unwilling to pay anything to change that"

That's actually the situation.

PS: Shipping speed on Amazon depends on who the vendor is, where they are located...you know...just like any business.

Free shipping is based on a minimum order amount, notnecessarily on Prime membership. The penalty started out by slower processing on my orders, which was fine because a week or two is reasonable. Apparently too many others thought so as well and didn't subscribe, because now I'm seeing a projected delivery of 25 to 40 days. How can you fault me? More and more stores are jumping on the wagon with free shipping and I'm betting that the delivery time is much better.

I've not seen an "across the board" 25-40 days" shipping time on anything i've ordered.

I think that there is more to this story like your PARTICULAR PRODUCT ORDERED just happens to have a long delivery time.

Don,I have been a very good customer for years and know the routine. These items were Amazon and not from vendors. I use the word extortion, because if I don't give them extra money, the threat is up to 40 days shipping time. That is a proper term.

Anyway, not a problem, there are other options. They're so big that they won't miss the few thousand I spend each year.

Gee,at this point I'm sorry I brought it up! Maybe I thought I'd get some sympathy.

Is Amazon the only company which has the item you want to buy? If not, buy from some other company which offers faster delivery.

Don,I didn't say anything about across the board of 25-40 days. My specific order of in stock items, shipped by Amazon, could be had in 2 days with Prime,or 25 to 40 without it. Pretty cut and dried in my mind.

These items can be purchase in many places. Again,I'm not looking for fast delivery,a week or two. 25 to 40 days is crazy IMO. So,I'll buy elsewhere. :)

Hahahah...you thought wrong.

Definition of extortion:
the practice of obtaining something, especially money, through force or threats.

Unless they came and beat you up or threatened to...then you are a consumer making a choice in the market place and they are a vendor providing a product.

Just for giggles...what is the exact product we are discussing?

Are you describing whether to purchase from a "Prime vendor" or not?

That's always been the choice on Amazon..some vendors agree to ship under the prime guidelines and some don't.

It's never changed and it depends on the product.
