"Power Importing" into Lightroom 5.7

I'm trying to import my Aperture libraries into Lightroom using the ApertureExporter app and I have a question about LR's import capabilities.

I was able to generate a series of folders ("A", "B", "C" for example) containing my Aperture images - one folder for each event - without difficulty.

Now comes the hard part. I would like to do a "blanket" import of these folders into LR, while maintaining the top-level folder structure of "A", "B", and "C" and have LR generate the
"YYYY/YYYYMMDD" folder structure beneath each of "A", "B"
and "C" plus have LR automatically modify the image name to include the date.

Basically I'm looking for a way to avoid importing "A", "B" and
"C" in three separate import steps but instead select all three
of these folders and have LR recreate the same "A", "B" and "C"
upper-level folder structure and then do all of its usual sorting
and renaming by image capture date.

Thanks for any help or advice!

Catherine

Tell us a little more about exactly what is in your folders a b c etc. Is there already a substructure within each? Are the images in there raw or untouched unedited? or are they edited?

It is very possible they do not to be MOVED into lightroom instead they may be able to be added (kept in place with lightroom awareness)..

Folders "A", "B" and "C" do not contain any substructure, simply a list of photos some of which are edited and some of which are raw.

I want to move them into LightRoom (rather than simply adding) so all my
photos "in" Lightroom (i.e. in the catalogue) follow the same format of
<event_name>/<year>/<yyyymmdddd>. The ApertureExporter app that I'm using doesn't generate any substructure within the folders (one per event), so that's why I think I have to actually move them into LR rather than simply adding them to the catalogue in their current folder structure.

if your photos are intact in the a b c file structure you don't need to move them you just need to add them and lightroom will add their location to the catalog. The photos do not go in the catalog only a pointer to each image and a record of any LR editing you do going forward are kept in the catalog. I believe Lightroom will import them with the year/date substructure if you select that option in the import dialog.

Folders "A", "B" and "C&q... (show quote)

Not sure if I have all your info, but:

During the import process you can create the event folder then select the images to import and Lightroom will create the sub folders for each year and the date folders based on the images date taken automatically.

Or you can ADD the images to Lightroom's catalog and not move them from their existing location. This makes them available for use within Lightroom right where they currently are.

You can also manually create the event folder, year & date structure, move the files then add them to lightroom without moving them further.
