I have one also but it does not focus automatically. It is a good sharp lens and I enjoy using it for portrait work. It can be a bit long because it was made for film not for Pentax digital.

The best source for information on K-mount lenses is the Lens Reviews and Lens Information section run by the Pentax Forum

This is kind of strange. "Takumar" is the name originally used by Pentax for the high-quality lenses they made themselves, in Japan, for their M42 mount (screw mount) that preceded their K-mount

my initial introduction to pentax lenses was in vietNam 1968. tacumar were not an improvement on those super multi coated lenses. there have been some fantastic pentax lenses since.. i have many of THEM. But i:m wondering if ROKINON didnt make some of the better :PENTAX: lenses for the parent compaany????

I gather that is true, the best M42 lenses by Pentax were labeled Takumar, but when they started making K mount lenses they labeled them SMC Pentax. Then they brought out a cheaper line labeled Takumar. I have a 135mm f/2.5 Takumar I thought it took good pictures when I used it for film, at least looking at the slides. After getting a digital camera I tried it but the image quality was quite poor. I checked it for signs of damage being dropped, coming apart but could not find any sign of what happened.

Asahi Optical company began by making lenses, including some for cameras made by other companies. Later they branched out to making cameras also, which featured a pentaprism as an integral part of the viewfinder, and adopted the brand name "Pentax" for their products. They came into hard times around the time that autofocus cameras became common, and eventually Hoya bought up the entire business. Many Pentax loyalists felt that Hoya had little interest in the photography part of the business, and recently Hoya sold that part of the business to Ricoh.

The camera I learned to shoot with was a SP500 Pentax. Must be a 1965 vintage with the M42 screw mount lens. It was my father's and I added it to my Pentax collection when he passed.
